The initial signs of facial oiliness are not primarily characterized by the appearance and deepening of wrinkles, as commonly believed. More importantly, the early signs include the melting of fat pads in the midsection of the face, which gives a greasy and tired expression to the face.
Wrinkles on the face usually start to become noticeable in the late 30s. However, the loss of facial fullness begins about 10 years earlier. Specifically, the melting of existing fat pads under the eyelids leads to three significant problems:
To address all these problems simultaneously, the emptied area in the middle part of the face needs to be replenished with the person’s own tissue. Currently, there are two methods used for fat transfer purposes:
The main difference between these two methods is the longevity of the injected fat. In the first method, the harvested fat is injected as it is, in bulk. In micro fat transplantation, fat is harvested at low pressure without damaging the tissue, undergoes a special process, and is then layered into the target area in very small amounts. This technique has reduced the fat cell absorption rate from around 80% to 30-40%.
Previous fat injections required repeated procedures to enhance their longevity. Freezing the cells for this purpose resulted in the delivery of dead cells during repeated injections, rendering the procedure ineffective.
Delivering a smaller amount of live tissue compared to fat injections helps prevent fluctuations and excessive swelling in the face. Generally, a single injection is sufficient for the cells to remain viable in the body. In this technique, the sagging or emptied areas of the face (cheeks, upper part of the cheekbones, and the area around the lips) can be filled with fat harvested from the abdomen or buttocks.
This technique allows for the use of the necessary amount of fat from excess body areas (abdomen or buttocks) to fill the sagging or emptied areas of the face. The advantage of this method over filler substances is that the patient’s face can be rejuvenated using their own tissue, and the injected fat has an average permanence rate of 60%. Furthermore, since the cells used are from the patient’s own body, there is no risk of allergies.
The application is performed under local anesthesia in an operating room, eliminating the possibility of the patient experiencing pain and minimizing the risk of infection. The patient can return to their normal life within 1-2 hours after the procedure. Some swelling and mild bruising may occur on the face, depending on the amount of fat injected, which typically resolves within 4-7 days.
When performed by an experienced and skilled team, fat injection is an extremely reliable and successful non-surgical technique for facial rejuvenation.
